Packing for College

From the Reform Movement
Carmel is a yearlong Reform Jewish learning and living experience in Israel, combining academic and informal learning opportunities. It is designed for students who have recently graduated from high school. Participants will study at the University of Haifa and at the Reform Movement's Lokey International Academy of Jewish Studies at the Leo Baeck Education Center. They will return with a year of Academic study and credit. Participants will form a living Reform Jewish community of learning, celebration, participation in Tikkun Olam projects in the community and extensive field trips in Israel. Jewish U is a hands-on guide to living Jewishly on campus. How to observe your first high holidays away from home. How to decide if you should join a fraternity or sorority. How to find the right place to eat during Passover. How to talk to non-Jewish roommates about Judaism. How to find common ground with Jewish students from different backgrounds. This book from URJ Press will assist you with making a Jewish home for yourself on campus.
An excellent online resource for High School students, the KESHER Directory contains contact information for Reform students at over 200 campuses across North America. This service connects college applicants with students on campus who can answer questions about Reform Jewish life and their general experiences on campus, or even host a campus visit.
Packing for College: Where does Judaism Fit is a program for High School Juniors and Seniors and their families, designed to address the variety of issues students may face during this time of transition. In nine innovative, educational sessions for students and their parents discuss a variety of opportunities and challenges that college life may bring, all within a Jewish framework.
